A lot of rooms in our home get a lot of attention, typically the bedroom and living room get the most attention as we spend the most time either sleeping or sitting watching TV or socialising in these rooms. One of the more recent trends though is to make improvements to our kitchens. The kitchen has become the de facto social hub of many homes as family members meet at the breakfast table or friends have a chat at parties in the kitchen (possibly because this is where the alcohol and food are kept?).

Either way as a country we are spending a lot more time in our kitchens and so when it comes time to make significant improvements to our homes the kitchen is fast becoming the room that we are most likely to spend money and effort on. The best part of getting kitchens renovated is that you can choose exactly what features and appliances you want to have to hand.

Some homes may use the kitchen more as a place for socialising and so hiding the appliances away behind cupboards is a more attractive prospect. Others people may be budding chefs and need larger multiple burner hobs or double wide ovens. Whatever your desire is for your kitchen when planning you can choose one of the many new and innovative features to help customise the build to your requirements.

There are many appliances we now use in our kitchens as a part of our daily lives but also many table top appliances that we can stash away in a cupboard when they are not in use. Other newer features in the kitchen can be design flourishes such as a tower of power sockets that can pop out of your worktop for your table top appliances or even drawers and cupboards that don’t slam but softly close by themselves.

A lot of kitchen designs include major restructuring such as knocking down dividing walls or creating more space with an open plan design. During the 2000′s the big buzz word with interior design was “open plan” and considering how most people spent a lot of time in their kitchens making them open plan made the whole house more of a social place to be rather than cramming as many people in the kitchen which could leave some people sat elsewhere on their own!

Kitchen redesigns are a great opportunity to inject some style and personality in to your home, there are many different styles to choose from whether you are looking for a modern design or a traditional country cottage styled kitchen instead.

For any home improvements such as new kitchens or any other new rooms like new bathrooms make sure you compare a range of different suppliers and see examples of past work to know what to expect.
